LAST AMENDMENT (lxiv)*

"SOMETHING HAS A HOLD ON THEIR BALLS"

BLOOD-BROTHERS IN ARMS

"We oppose ill-conceived laws that would restrict magazine capacity or ban the sale of the most popular and common modern rifle. We also oppose any effort to deprive individuals of their right to keep and bear arms without due process of law.

Republican Platform 2016, A Rebirth of Constitutional Government, The Second Amendment: Our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, at 13:

Their mechanized expressions of sympathy and outrage, their contrived assertions of cause/effect, their feigned assurances of meaningful action, their empty attempts to shift responsibility: these carry not a whit of sincerity, deflecting nothing, while memorializing their cartoonish intellectual dishonesty.

Automaton Condolence

Who believes any of what Trump reads from his Florida teleprompter? He’s proven himself incapable of speaking—let alone thinking—like a compassionate statesman despite the efforts of his Hallmark/NRA handlers, who nonetheless managed to keep him from acknowledging this all-too-common means of mass murder in the United States.

Hugs Anyone?

Who believes any of what Rick Scott says when the only thing he adds to “thoughts and prayers”—I kid you not—is “hugs”? Having done everything in his power to provide Florida’s budding mass-murderers unrestricted access to the most efficient killing machines, Scott now blames the FBI for not stopping Ted Cruz’s blood-brother from legally walking out of a Florida gun store with a military-style weapon and all the magazines and ammunition necessary to become a "professional school shooter." So, sure, why not blame the FBI—it only receives a few hundred tips each and every day (a surfeit of bad data made infinitely worse by the surfeit of assault rifles in this country [oh, and a dearth of accessible, affordable mental healthcare, thanks again to Rick Scott and his friends. Hugs anyone?])?

Speaking Nonsense Ad Infinitum

Who believes Ryan when the required “waiting period” isn’t for a legal weapon purchase but to mourn and investigate before any meaningful discussion can occur, resulting in another mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate until the next mass-murder we must mourn and investigate . . . ?

As I previously posted—to those who continue to embrace and perpetuate the bumper-sticker myth that the Second Amendment protects individual rights to keep and use arms for non-military purposes—other than self-defense in one’s own home—please read carefully District of Columbia v. Heller, a 2008 5-4 decision of the United States Supreme Court, including the footnotes. The decisions are below.

Justice Scalia’s Majority (5 Justices): https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/pdf/07-290P.ZO

Justice Stevens’ Dissent (4 Justices): https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/pdf/07-290P.ZD

Justice Breyer’s Dissent (4 Justices): https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/pdf/07-290P.ZD1

There’s a mythology here that the supreme court has said something about the second amendment that it hasn’t . . . . I think most Americans don’t like reading the footnotes. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/oct/05/second-amendment-right-to-bear-arms-meaning-history

IN LIGHT OF HELLER, PLEASE DISSECT THE FOLLOWING LANGUAGE WHEN INTERPRETING WHAT “THOUGHTS, PRAYERS AND [NOW] HUGS” ACTUALLY MEANS

Under Republican Platform 2016, A Rebirth of Constitutional Government, the Second Amendment: Our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, pages 12-13 provide:

“We uphold the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, a natural inalienable right that predates the Constitution and is secured by the Second Amendment. Lawful gun ownership enables Americans to exercise their God-given right of self-defense for the safety of their homes, their loved ones, and their communities.”

“We salute the Republican Congress for defending the right to keep and bear arms by preventing the President from installing a new liberal majority on the Supreme Court. The confirmation to the Court of additional anti-gun justices would eviscerate the Second Amendment’s fundamental protections. . . . We support firearm reciprocity legislation to recognize the right of law-abiding Americans to carry firearms to protect themselves and their families in all 50 states. We support constitutional carry statutes and salute the states that have passed them. We oppose ill-conceived laws that would restrict magazine capacity or ban the sale of the most popular and common modern rifle. We also oppose any effort to deprive individuals of their right to keep and bear arms without due process of law.” [So, how exactly does Governor Scott think the FBI should have prevented Cruz from his entirely legal purchase of an AR-15 in Florida?]

“We condemn frivolous lawsuits against gun manufacturers and the current Administration’s illegal harassment of firearm dealers. We oppose federal licensing or registration of law-abiding gun owners, registration of ammunition, and restoration of the ill-fated Clinton gun ban. . . .”

In the face of common-place mass murder in America, accomplished with a military-style assault rifle, you know exactly what "thoughts, prayers and hugs" means: Fuck your children. Fuck kids in schools. Fuck parishioners. Fuck college students. Fuck movie-goers. Fuck you.
